The Arts Nest is honored to present HORSEBOOK, a solo exhibition by New York-based photographer and creative director Lila King. The show opens with a public reception on Saturday, October 11th from 1–3 PM and remains on view through February 28th 2026.

In HORSEBOOK, King turns her lens toward one of the most mythologized figures in visual culture—the horse—revealing its contradictions, complexities, and quiet power. Forgoing the familiar tropes of grandeur and grace, she instead captures moments of strangeness, vulnerability, and uncanny intimacy.

Shot exclusively on 35mm black-and-white film over a nine-month period across Upstate New York and New England, the work is a study in presence and perception. Each frame reflects a deep and personal understanding of the animal, born from King’s background as a former rider and her immersive, slow approach to image-making.

Through a collection of large-scale prints, HORSEBOOK challenges viewers to see the horse not just as symbol or spectacle, but as sentient subject—alive with gesture, mystery, and meaning. It is in the tension between surface and spirit that this body of work resides.

The exhibition is free and open to the public. All are warmly invited to join the artist for the opening reception with refreshments on October 11th at The Arts Nest.
