An Intensive summer program for singers
and collaborative pianists

The DVO and New York Opera Studio is looking for a small group of talented and serious singers looking for a workshop/summer program focused on personal artistry and performance.
This intensive program is designed to guide singers through the exploration of the musical language, verbal language and body language of the operatic art form and the creative process necessary to integrate them all into meaningful, inspiring and artistic performance. Each singer will participate in scene study, music coachings, diction coachings, music and stage rehearsals, movement classes, creative process classes, acting classes and study of 18th century drama and its influence on the operas of the day.
Singers and pianists will perform in several concerts during the program. Working with this famous team of professionals in this inspiring and creative program will change the way you approach your singing and performing forever!
Opera ADVANTAGE 2014 will take place over the 9 days from June 7 – 15th in New York City.
WHERE: Rehearsals and classes will take place at various locations throughout Manhattan
Final Concert will be performed at the Opera Center of Opera America
WHEN: Saturday, June 7 through Sunday, June 15th
WHO: A maximum of 14 SINGERS will be chosen to work with a team of opera professionals on operatic style, language, artistry and performance skills . Singers wanting stage experience and individual work on style and artistry are encouraged to apply. Singers should have a strong vocal background and be ready to sing major operatic roles.
Four PIANISTS will be chosen to work on their individual collaborative piano and coaching skills. Each pianist will be responsible for the music preparation of a small group of singers accompanying them through all rehearsals and performance. Pianists will receive coaching in collaborative piano and coaching.
WHAT: SINGER AND PIANISTS will work on large portions of different operas(chosen specifically for each singer) to be performed for the public at the end of the program.
Each singer will receive the following:
- Daily movement and dance training
- Daily creative process and acting classes
- Music Coaching
- Diction Coaching
- Scene Staging
- Audition Skills Workshop
- Russian Language Workshop
- Italian, French and German Diction Master Classes
PRICE: The fee for the program is $1,300. The fee covers all training and performance. The fee does not cover housing or food.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE: The program is designed for singers and pianists interested in making careers in opera and who have a background of strong vocal or piano training and some performance experience.
